Indies First/Small Business Saturday!

We can't wait to celebrate Indies First with YOU! While it is normally celebrated on Saturday (11/25), we will be starting the festivities early on Friday (11/24)! Indies First is a celebration of independent bookstores and local communities!

We have quite the weekend prepared for you! 

  • Friday, 11-7PM (THAT'S RIGHT WE ARE OPEN ON A FRIDAY): We will hit it off with 15% off all of our New & Loved selected titles. If you spend over $50, you will get one of our BRAND NEW store totes for a BUCK! 

 

  • Saturday, 11-7PM: The same deals as above PLUS a very special storytime hour starting at 2PM with author Aram Kim, who has written the cutest picture book, No Kimchi For Me. 

 

  • Sunday, 11-5PM: We wrap up this special weekend with local author David Ezra Stein, who will be reading a few of his picture books in a special bedtime storytime hour starting at 4PM! We will have milk, cookies, and encourage everyone to come in their jammies! :)

Join us for a lively discussion between beloved Queens writers: Alex Segura and Lyndsay Faye! 

They will share with us how Queens has influenced their writing, and how they have weaved their tales of mystery and suspense. One, a retelling Jane Eyre as a murderess, and the other, a private investigator in Miami. 

The moderator will be Daniel Ford, author, and podcaster of Writer's Bone. 

Refreshments will be served and free parking is available.

Upcycled Bookbinding Workshop

In this skill-building workshop you will learn how to craft your very own books from scratch, using things that can easily be found around the house! In an effort to both reduce waste and explore your creative side, learn how to turn leftover cardboard, wrapping paper and fabric into unique journals, sketchbooks or scrapbooks. Then, fill them up with your thoughts and art or give them away as one of a kind gifts!

Storytime at Socrates

There’s nothing like a good story to get the imagination working.

Join The Queens Bookshop Inititative every third Saturday from June through September for Storytime in the Park! They will begin with traditional storytime, reading children’s books that explore the joy of art and creativity, with some even written by local Queens authors.

Then, everyone gets a chance to be an author or an illustrator by participating in Interactive Storytime, where they’ll get you started, but the adventure is up to you.

Queens College Reading Series' brings to our borough fascinating talks with award winning authors! We hope you will join us on their upcoming talk with Jhumpa Lahiri - author of: Interpreter of Maladies, The Namesake, Unaccustomed Earth, The Lowland, In Other Words, and The Clothing of Books. She has received numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize! 

We will have signed copies of her most recent work for sale! 

This event will start at 7PM on March 7th in the LeFrak Concert Hall in the QC Music Building.
